T’ai Chi / Kung Fu Fan
Combining the movements from traditional T’ai Chi, Kung Fu and martial arts movements, Professor Li Deyin created this series of exercises or forms as a support to the bid for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
It is practiced as a health or martial arts discipline.
The second routine, Xiyangmei T’aiChi Kung Fu-Fan combines movements form various martial arts; Bagua, Chen and Sun Style T’ai Chi Chuan, ChaCuan, Chang Chuan and movements from other styles.
In China warriors used iron fans, designed to appear harmless, and used  as weapons. The Samurai used them in the same way. The Tessenjutsu is the martial art of the Japanese war with fans called the Tessen’; a solid or folding iron fan with eight or ten wood or iron ribs.
The hero Yoshitsune from a Japanese legend, was taught by a Tengu, a mythological creature, on how to defeat an opponent with an iron fan and instructed him in the art of swordsmanship. Women also used the fans with blades to protect themselves.
